SHOWSHEET_Goldbergs_stand-640I was bored this evening, and flipped through Hulu to see if anything worth watching was on, when I saw a listing for Season 3 of the ABC series “The Goldbergs“. I rather enjoyed the show, however I thought it got cancelled after the first season! Apparently it hasn’t and now season 3 has started. This means I need to watch ALL of season 2 in order to catch up. Thankfully the entire second season is available for viewing on Hulu, so catching up will be a cinch!

I’m not sure why I thought the show was cancelled. I checked it’s Wiki page, and apparently it never got cancelled! It’s not like it’s a show that got the axe, but then got saved thanks to the love of it’s fanbase. It was just renewed. What I did see on the wiki is that the show changed days/time and got moved behind the show “The Middle“, which is an ABC show I don’t watch, and in fact until last night thought it was “Malcom in the Middle
just renamed after the character Malcom left. Imagine my surprise when I discovered myself to be wrong. Fun fact: I never watched Malcom in the Middle either!

It’s 3:30 in the morning, and instead of getting a good nights sleep, I am sitting here watching the pilot episode of Quantum Leap. Why? Well, the heat for starters! This heat makes it a little difficult to get a nights sleep, let alone a good nights sleep. So, the heat is one reason. The other reason, is because I haven’t seen Quantum Leap in YEARS.

You know what though? Even after all these years, Quantum Leap is still a fantastic show! It just doesn’t get old, which is not something that can be said for most Sci-Fi shows. To be fair though, unlike other Sci-Fi Shows, Quantum Leap doesn’t rely too heavily on special effects, so that’s probably a big reason why it has aged so well.

I really wish they would do either a reunion movie special of Quantum Leap, A Blockbuster movie, or a new TV show based on it. I really think it would do well, because how could it not? It’s Quantum Leap!

Netflix Streaming is a great way to watch whole seasons of your favorite shows, or discover new favorites. So, if you are looking for some of the best shows currently playing on Netflix Streaming, then consider viewing these 11 titles.

1) Lost – Plane crashes, survivors survive and try to figure out why all this weird stuff keeps happening. It’s actually much better than I describe it, but in case you haven’t seen it, I don’t want to give anything away. Suffice it to say, the show is full of twists and curves that will leave you constantly thinking.

2) Battlestar Galactica – Am I talking about the new series or the older classic? Both!

3) Firefly – A very short-lived Sci-Fi series. Short lived however doesn’t mean it wasn’t great! It was great! In fact it was so great, they made the movie Serenity, which takes place after the events of the series.

4) Buffy The Vampire SlayerSarah Michelle Geller stars in the campy TV version of Buffy The Vampire slayer. Now, I am not sure if the series picks up after the movie, or if the events in the movie ever happened. I don’t believe the show is really that clear on the point. However, it’s a good show and definitely worth watching if you haven’t already.

5) The Highlander – In the end there can be only one! It’s a show about immortals who go around trying to chop each others heads off. Whats not to love?

6) Swamp People – A reality series that follow people as they go out into the swamps and hunt gators, and other swamp dwelling creatures, but mostly just gators.

7) Destination Truth – A reality show, that follows Josh Gates, as he travels the globe looking for monsters. Everything from BigFoot to Nahuelito.

8) X-Files – A non-reality show, that follows FBI agents, Mulder and Scully as they go looking for monsters. Great show, that was insanely popular in my youth, however it’s a series I never got to see when it originally aired. Now I have a chance to see it! Thanks Netflix!

9) MacGyver – He hates guns. He makes anything you can think of using gum, safety-pin, duct tape and a Swiss army knife. He works for the phoenix foundation. What is it? I don’t know, the shows not real clear on that. What it does though, is solve other Peoples problems, apparently with only creative uses of toilet paper, pencils and a handful of powdered soap.

10) Star Trek – Which one? ALL of them! The original series, The next generation, Enterprise, Deep Space 9, Voyager and even the animated series! Ever missed a trek series? Now’s the time to fix that!

11) The Walking Dead – It’s a show about Zombies. Need I say more?!

TV Land is just one of many Cable Television stations that show Classic Black and White “Olde Timey” television shows like; Dobie Gillis, “I love Lucy” and Gunsmoke (Although I do admit that TV Land has cut back on its classics and has since decided that 80’s/90’s TV is classic enough for them).

One of my favorite TV shows from back in the day however, was the Patty Duke Show. What was it about? Well, the theme song pretty much sums it up.

Meet Cathy, who’s lived most everywhere,
From Zanzibar to Barclay Square.
But Patty’s only seen the sight.
A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights.
What a crazy pair!

But they’re cousins,
Identical cousins all the way.
One pair of matching bookends,
Different as night and day.

Where Cathy adores a minuet,
The Ballet Russes, and crepe Suzette,
Our Patty loves to rock and roll,
A hot dog makes her lose control!
What a wild duet!

Still, they’re cousins,
Identical cousins and you’ll find,
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike!

You can lose your mind,
When cousins are two of a kind.

While the show might have been great, and the theme song very catchy. One part of that theme song leaves me baffled!

“Our Patty loves to rock and roll, A hot dog makes her lose control!”

I have to ask myself, why would a hot dog make anyone lose control? It’s just a hod dog! It’s not even a chilli-Slaw dog with cheese and onions! Just a basic Hot Dog.

Unless of course that “Hot Dog” is just an innuendo? Perhaps it means something a little more Risque? Let’s not forget that this show was on the air from 1963 to 1966, so what might not be Risque to you today, very well could have to that era of television viewers.

Let's Give the Boy a Hand

It’s time for old favorites to be returning to the moving picture box, that we affectionately call the T.V., not only that, but also time for new shows to grace our doorstep. The majority of the new shows in my opinion stink though. However, there are a few that show promise. Like, Raising Hope for instance. I wasn’t interested in the show when I first saw some ads for it, but when I actually watched the show, I was impressed with it.

One show however that I didn’t find amusing or impressive however was the new sitcom series “Outsourced”, which is based on a movie of the same name. Now, I didn’t like the movie at all, so it came as no surprise to me, when I rolled my eyes watching the series. I did kind of hope that the show would improve on certain aspects of the movie, instead it seemed like just a lot of rehashing of the same garbage that the movie tried to shovel down the viewers throats.

There were a few other shows released this year, but none of them I found really noteworthy.

Onto the returning favorites! First, Dexter returned this year, and as usual I was very excited about that, seeing as how it’s one of my favorite TV shows. When it came on, I sat in anticipation with a bag of ruffles in one hand, and a can of pepsi in the other. Bottom Line; The season premier was a slight disappointment, it was a tad boring, but that’s to be expected. The season has to get into full swing, and really after least seasons finale, it’s going to be really hard to top!

Another show that came back this year, was Smallville. Considering I am a major comic book geek, it’s probably not much of a surprise that this show is listed as one of my favorite shows right? The first thing, and probably the worst thing, is that this is going to be the final season of smallville, It’s going to be sad to see it go, although I honestly don’t see why it has to go anywhere. I mean, just end this season and go full on Superman! Costume, flight, everything. Let Smallville pass away and start up “Yet even MORE new adventures of Superman”. Tom Welling I doubt would refuse the role, because seriously, I doubt he can do anything else that isn’t Clark Kent related. It’s what he’s known for and people will continue to see Clark Kent, no matter what role he is doing.

There’s a lot more shows obviously out there, but I don’t have the time or space to comment on each and every one of them. Pick up your TV remote, and watch some! Then, if you feel so inclined, come back and let me know what you think of a certain show that’s airing this season.

Cover of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

Back in the 80’s they released a movie about teenage time travelers. No, I am not talking about back to the future! I am referring to Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure, which starred Keanu Reeves in one of his earlier roles. Unlike the DeLorean from back to the future, Bill & Ted used a phone booth, kinda like the TARDIS but nowhere near as cool looking, and definitely not as roomy.

The movie centered around 2 highschool losers, who needed to pass a history test so they could perform at a music event. To ensure this happened, a Time traveler came back in his phone booth, and took the kids out on a journey through time. All so they could pass their history test. The premise sounds extremely stupid, I agree. However, the movie developed quite a large cult following, and even spawned a sequel, as well as a comic book series, An animated series, as well as a short-lived television series despite the films sheer stupidity.

That was then, and thankfully the world moved on. Bill & Ted is perhaps the worst film franchise in the history of bad film franchises. It basically, is a film better left to rot in the past. Forgotten for all eternity. Will that happen though? Hell no! Apparently, they are in development of Bill & Ted 3. Seriously, a third film after this long? It’s not even a reboot, it’s part three! They actually want to continue the so-called story, and not just recreate it to make it less lame.

The Fall Guy

When I was just a wee little tyke, I would stay up late at night sometimes and watch old TV show reruns. I remember, one of my favorite of these old shows was called “The Fall Guy” and starred Lee majors. I remember when it would come on, I would build a little tent out of my pillows and blankets, and watch it in big eyed amazement.

Now, I am not sure how many of you are familiar with the show, but it’s about a hollywood stuntman, who is also a part-time bounty hunter, and he uses his hollywood skills in his night job. It was also in the 80’s and anyone who’s familiar with action shows of the 80’s know that they are chock full of explosions. Fall guy was no different!

Last night, I noticed that one of our local stations was airing old re-runs of The Fall Guy! I haven’t seen the show in years, and was anxious to see it again. So, I tuned in and began watching. Unfortunately, about 10 mins into the show, it dawned on me, that the show kinda sucks! It wasn’t as good as I remember. Perhaps my tastes have changed? I don’t know, but for whatever reason, it lost its magic.

You know what? On second thought, maybe it was just because I was missing my make shift tent!

A new Television series is getting ready to come on the air. The TV show is called “The Walking Dead“, and as I am sure you were able to figure out, it is a show dealing with the zombie apocolypse! Not the zombie aspect of it mind you, but from the survivors perspective.

Now, if you are anything like me, then the title of this new series may sound familiar to you. Which it should, because it’s based on a Black & White comic book published by Image Comics, of the same name.

Personally, I loved the comic! It was one of my favorite comic book series. In fact, it ranked right up there with 100 bullets, Y: The last man, Preacher and Punisher. Yea, it’s just that good!

Enough about the comic though, the point is the new series! Now, the series is on AMC, which did come as a surprise to me, becase I honestly did not even know AMC made TV shows! Apprently however they do, and this new series is one of them.

So when is this show set to air? I will give you a clue. Sometime in the month of October. Right! You guessed it! Halloween, october 31st! Having it start on Halloween, considering the premise, is a great idea! Although, if you live in a house that get’s a lot of trick-or-teaters, then you might find yourself missing a lot as you get up and down to answer the door.

Will the show last and become a huge hit? Well, I really do hope so! However, I doubt it will last and/or become a TV hit. Why? Well, it’s on AMC! People don’t normally go scanning AMC for new Fall TV shows to watch! Perhaps though they should start? I know from now on AMC is getting checked by me for new shows!

As many people are aware of by now, Actor Gary Coleman passed away May 28th, 2010. at 12:05 PM MTD. He was only 42 when he passed away from this world, which is VERY young!

Gary Coleman has had spots in many television and film, however he is probably most remembered for his role as Arnold Jackson in the late 70’s/early 80’s Television hit series Diff’rent Strokes, and his memorable catch phrase “What’chu talkin’ ’bout Willis?!”.

Now, I remember watching Diff’rent Strokes, in fact it was one of my favorite shows back in the day. However, I must confess that I was never a big Gary Coleman fan. That being said, I always admired the guy. He went through a whole lot of crap throughout his life. Much of that crap he dealt with at a VERY young age. However, despite it all, he still managed to carry on.

Rest in Peace Gary.

[MacGyver Season 1 DVD case]There used to be a show on television way back when called MacGyver. The show was basically about this guy named, MacGyver(Played by Richard Dean Anderson) who managed to get himself out of pretty much any situation using his brains! MacGyver never used a gun, at least in the way you would expect. Apparently guns do a lot more than just shoot out bullets.

This show was on in the 80’s, though had a long run on the USA Network in the form of re-runs! The show had a rather large following, and even if you have never seen the series, it’s a pretty safe bet you have heard of MacGyver in some form.

So, why was MacGyver so special? To begin with, he managed to get out of any situation by making gizmos using whatever items were lying around. These Gizmos later got dubbed MacGyverisms, which is a term still used on occasion today.

Now, I haven’t seen this show in YEARS, not since it was airing on USANetwork, and I was just a wee little tyke then. I didn’t fully grasp how cool the show was until I got older and looked back at shows from my past and thought Jesus christ, that show kicked ass!’ Now, I want to see them all again, that’s just how cool the series really was!

As I said though, I was much younger when I originally watched this series. So, I don’t remember a lot. Many aspects of the series are fuzzy. Take For instance, The Phoenix Foundation! I know MacGyver used to work there, but I have no idea what it was! Was it a government based shadow organisation? Was it an independent contractor? A mercenary group? I’m not sure! Maybe someone who stumbles across this entry will know.

What I DO remember from the show however is this: There is no problem on this planet that can not be solved with duct tape, fertilizer, swiss army knife, Pack of Chewing gum and a paper clip. No kidding! If you ever watched this show, you would know this!

Lastly, and only loosely based on the series. I never could figure out why MacGyver wasn’t taken and turned into a Computer game. I mean, MacGyver would fit in PERFECTLY to a Sierra style point and click adventure title. I mean, that’s what MacGyver does! Go around, gather common items, use them together to form uncommon items and then use the uncommon item, in an uncommon way to solve a seemingly unsolvable puzzle. See? PERFECT Point and Click inventory based adventure game.
