DC Universe Online

As many of you know, I have been eagerly looking forward to the upcoming release of DC Universe Online, a Super-hero MMORPG from Sony Online Entertainment, that was scheduled to be released early next month. In fact, I went and subscribed to Champions Online to hold me over until that release date.

However, today my hopes, dreams and wishes were shattered! How so you ask? Well, SOE announced that the release date should be pushed back. I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that releasing the game closer to Christmas would be the better choice anyway, that it would increase their sales, and in the long run benefit the gamers, since more people will have the game as christmas presents, and normally I would agree with you, but it’s not pushed back as a christmas release.

You see, the game has been pushed way back! The release date now, is March 31st, 2011! For those keeping track, that’s a long pushback, and a long wait. Long pushbacks make Shaide really unhappy. On the bright side, I suppose I still have Champions Online to keep me company for all those months that I now have to wait. Hopefully, the game will keep me interested until the end of march.

I suppose what worries me most, is when games start getting pushed back, they have a tendency to keep getting pushed back for years on end! Let’s not forget the Alan Wake and Splinter Cell: Conviction fiascos! I am really hoping however that this time the game will be released in March. Only time will tell however. Only time will tell.

[Sam Fisher]Been playing Splinter Cell: Conviction the last few days whenever I get the chance, which unfortunately hasn’t been often, seeing as how I lead a very busy life and all! However the bit I have played of this game is incredible! It’s fun, it’s Exciting, It’s Sam Fisher! I mean, how can you go wrong?!

I could sing the praises of this game for hours and not run out of good things to say about it, but I should try and focus on both pros as well as Cons. So, let me try coming up with some complaints.

Ok, the game DOES take some getting used to, especially if you are a hardcore fan of the Splinter Cell game series. Sam Fisher no longer can wedge himself between walls and attack from above. You also are not able to drag bodies into the shadows to avoid detection. In fact, while the game does require a certain amount of sneaking around, the stealth component doesn’t seem to be as strong in this chapter of the splinter cell saga as it was in previous episodes. In fact, at least one episode is pure run and gun. That particular level, stealth is completely out the window.

The game also features a co-op set of levels, which is a totally different set of missions than the Sam Fisher storyline. However, I have yet to play the Co-op story, because to be honest, I suck at co-op! I’m not very helpful, and I tend to get all uncomfortable. I am so much better at shooting other players than helping them!

That being said, over all the game is fantastic! definitely something you should check out. Was it worth the long wait? Well, I think years of being pushed back was a bit ridiculous, but the game I think in the end was worth the wait. Especially those graphics! They are incredible, and if you are as much a graphic whore as I am, then you need to get the game just for the graphics alone!

[Sam Fisher]So, the demo for Splinter Cell: Conviction came out on the xbox 360 the other day. Obviously I downloaded it, and it was incredible! I can’t wait til the game is released next month! Don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying the game is perfect. The gameplay COULD have been better. I preferred the gameplay from past splinter cell titles, so this style will definitely take some getting used to.

One thing I did miss however was being able to pick up and move unconscious people so you can drag them into the shadows. This game, from what I saw didn’t allow that. I could be wrong though of course! The demo isn’t very long, it’s just enough to give you a taste of the game. Which despite the gameplay style, tasted REALLY good!

One of the best things about the game though is the graphics. I mean, they are incredible! Plus everything is so smooth, and the stylised lighting just improves it all! I’m telling you the game looks so good, that it’s beyond Jaw Dropping! It’s Jraw Dopping! I just made that up! See, it’s like so Jaw Dropping, that you can’t even pronounce it right, cause you are so mesmerised by it, and also because your jaw is laying on the ground and dragging behind you while you are walking about in this dazed overwhelmed confusion trying to tell people how totally AWESOME the game looks.

Yes, I did say Awesome. You got a problem with my retro way of speaking pallie?

Well, it LOOKS like this time the game Splinter Cell Conviction might actually get released. It’s spent the last few years getting pushed back, and to be honest I doubted it would ever see the light of day! Although it looks like THIS time it might actually do it! Apparently a Splinter Cell: Conviction demo will be released on Xbox live on the 18th of this month, and since that’s planned, it might actually NOT get pushed back this time around.

Now I am really excited!

Well, I have been playing Mass Effect 2, I got off to a slow start, but recently had some free time and just ripped through this game. Once I got playing, it was like I couldn’t stop! It’s easily one of the best RPGs ever released in my opinion. If you love RPGs and you love sci-fi then you REALLY should check this game series out(Starting with the first one of course).

So, after MANY hours of playing, I finished the game. Granted, I didn’t get the best possible ending, I lost some crew, but that just gives me a reason to play through the game again. However the one where I lost some of my crew, will be the saved game I use when Mass Effect 3 comes out, because unfortunately, thats originally how things played out for me, and I want my shepperd to have to face the consequences of his actions.

In my oppinion the best part of the game is where you take control of joker. I mean, it wasn’t long, and there weren’t any gunfights, but it offered a different view of things, and it was suspenseful! I loved that, and I hope Mass Effect 3 implements more of that when it’s released.

Speaking of Mass Effect 3, I seriously can not wait for this game to come out now! I am drooling at the mouth. The third Mass Effect game will be the final title in the planned Mass Effect trilogy, so anything could happen, all bets are off!

So, now that I have finished Mass Effect 2, what am I going to be doing in terms of gaming? Well, originally I had planned on grabbing Splinter Cell: Conviction, but it got delayed yet AGAIN. Big surprise there right? I swear, I seriously doubt that game will ever see the light of day. The game was due out way back in ’07 and has been getting delayed ever since, so it’s not a huge surprise that they decided once again to push back the release date.

So, with no Splinter Cell game to play, and no Mass Effect to play, most likely once I get my WoW account unhacked I will go back to playing that some, in the meantime, I will most likely play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and probably the few DLCs for Fallout 3 that I haven’t gotten a chance to play yet. Then of course there’s Second Life!

I am an Xbox 360 owner. I am not interested in owning a Wii or even a PS3(Although there are a few exclusive ps3 titles that DO look to be interesting). I am quite happy with my 360 game system. Everything from the games right down the the EXTREMELY affordable Xbox Live service.

However, there’s some things coming this way for 360 owners that has me drooling. So, I decided I would share with you the things im looking forward to most.

Twitter – Yea, Twitter is getting intergrated with the xbox live service. So, you can send and recieve twitter posts right from the comfort of your living room couch.

Facebook – Yea, apparently Facebook is getting added to the Xbox Live service too…How cool right?

Combine those with the already available netflix addon, yer pretty much good to go! The only other things I would like to see, is a Gmail addon and maybe a basic browser without java/cookies/flash kinda thang.

Splintercell: Conviction – Newest Splinter cell game! Was due out way back in ’07 but according to the folks at ubisoft this time it REALLY will make it by this coming christmas.

Alan Wake – I don’t know a whole lot about this game, but it looks pretty damn sweet and made by the brainiacs who did Max Paine. Nuff said!

Ghostbusters – C’mon! It’s Ghostbusters! What’s not to drool about? Plus from what I hear its got the whole original cast doing the voices. if that doesn’t make you jizz in your pants, then you CLEARLY are not geek enough to hang with me.

I love stealth games! I have loved stealth games since “Metal Gear” first graced that wonderous chunk of gray plastic..”The Nintendo Entertainment System“. Since then I have played most if not all stealth titles released. Although my FAVORITE one by far is the Splinter Cell series! It has everything you could hope for in a stealth game, and in each new chapter of the saga, there’s ALWAYS more new things! It just keeps getting better!

Now, Splinter Cell maybe my favorite series overall, but it doesnt have the best PREMISE! Don’t get me wrong, the premise is great! Its just simply not the best premise on the market that appeals to me. My vote for best stealth title premise? Goes to the “Hitman” series. Maybe that’s just because I prefer playing characters that are total opposites from the person I am. So, evil or criminal type characters appeal to me..A lot! I find it fun to be someone I wouldn’t actually ever be, even if I had the skill and training.

Another stealth title that falls under the same umbrella as hitmans “So not me” shadow is the “Thief” series, which while a good series kind of falls flat in the presence of other titles of this genre. Not that it’s bad, just that it lacks some of the appeal carried by other stealth series that makes them stand out.

So, now you might be asking why exactly I am even writing about these games, considering this is my first post about games(Although in all fairness it’s also only like my third post. I am still finding my niche). Well, I will tell you! I have been recently re-playing the Splinter Cell series, starting from the first one..so it as well as stealth games are on my mind, so I thought I would ramble on here about them for a few before I headed off to become Sam Fisher once more! 😉
