The Fall Guy

When I was just a wee little tyke, I would stay up late at night sometimes and watch old TV show reruns. I remember, one of my favorite of these old shows was called “The Fall Guy” and starred Lee majors. I remember when it would come on, I would build a little tent out of my pillows and blankets, and watch it in big eyed amazement.

Now, I am not sure how many of you are familiar with the show, but it’s about a hollywood stuntman, who is also a part-time bounty hunter, and he uses his hollywood skills in his night job. It was also in the 80’s and anyone who’s familiar with action shows of the 80’s know that they are chock full of explosions. Fall guy was no different!

Last night, I noticed that one of our local stations was airing old re-runs of The Fall Guy! I haven’t seen the show in years, and was anxious to see it again. So, I tuned in and began watching. Unfortunately, about 10 mins into the show, it dawned on me, that the show kinda sucks! It wasn’t as good as I remember. Perhaps my tastes have changed? I don’t know, but for whatever reason, it lost its magic.

You know what? On second thought, maybe it was just because I was missing my make shift tent!

A new Television series is getting ready to come on the air. The TV show is called “The Walking Dead“, and as I am sure you were able to figure out, it is a show dealing with the zombie apocolypse! Not the zombie aspect of it mind you, but from the survivors perspective.

Now, if you are anything like me, then the title of this new series may sound familiar to you. Which it should, because it’s based on a Black & White comic book published by Image Comics, of the same name.

Personally, I loved the comic! It was one of my favorite comic book series. In fact, it ranked right up there with 100 bullets, Y: The last man, Preacher and Punisher. Yea, it’s just that good!

Enough about the comic though, the point is the new series! Now, the series is on AMC, which did come as a surprise to me, becase I honestly did not even know AMC made TV shows! Apprently however they do, and this new series is one of them.

So when is this show set to air? I will give you a clue. Sometime in the month of October. Right! You guessed it! Halloween, october 31st! Having it start on Halloween, considering the premise, is a great idea! Although, if you live in a house that get’s a lot of trick-or-teaters, then you might find yourself missing a lot as you get up and down to answer the door.

Will the show last and become a huge hit? Well, I really do hope so! However, I doubt it will last and/or become a TV hit. Why? Well, it’s on AMC! People don’t normally go scanning AMC for new Fall TV shows to watch! Perhaps though they should start? I know from now on AMC is getting checked by me for new shows!

The Godfather

I remember when I was younger, my mother used to pretty much let me watch what I wanted. Within reason of course! She trusted my judgement on what I could handle. She was right to do so, because I knew what not to watch, because being human, I have the basic ability to tell when something is either going to freak me out, or scare the begeezus out of me. There were a few things I wouldn’t watch back in the day. The exorcist and The Shining being two of the biggest ones that stuck out in my mind.

One thing that I did watch a lot of was, Sci-fi flicks and Mobster flicks, though I doubt I would have watched a sci-fi mobster flick. Not because my little mind couldn’t handle it, but because that’s too damn cornballish even for me!

I loved Mobster flicks, and learned a great deal! I learned that Vinny and Vito were pretty common italian names, but nowhere near as common as Donald.

Yes, I said Donald! You read that right. I admit, that was slightly flawed, since I have learned that the most common Italian male name is probably Antonio, and that Donald isn’t very common at all! However, it seemed like every time I watched a Mobster movie, there was either a Vinny or a Vito. Occasionally both! Also, They were always led by some guy named Don. Yes, I have since learned that Don is not short for Donald. I have learned that there is no fictional character named Donald Corleone.

Yes, I did feel stupid. Although, thankfully I had the ignorance of youth to shield me.

The movie Paranormal Activity is out on DVD now.  Needless to say I had to rent it just to see what the big deal was about this flick, and I must admit I was not really all that impressed. It’s not really the makers fault either. I suppose in its own right, it maybe a good movie. Here’s the thing though. When you as a person hype a movie, and make comments like “That was the scariest thing ever”, It builds up expectations. Now, that might sound like a good thing, but it’s not! What happens is, I start watching this expecting to get scared out of my pants, and am treated to people waking up and finding a trail of footprints through baby powder.

Hardly a scary movie experience. In fact, I believe Cloverfield was a dozen times more scary, and the blair witch project was twice as scary.

As for if the movie was any good? Well, the chick that played the girlfriend was friggin hot. So it got bonus points for that. However that’s about where the bonus points ends. I don’t know. Like I said, it wasn’t bad. Although my opinion of it could be blurred slightly because I really dislike those hand-held movie style flicks. They start causing me motion sickness after a while.

The acting also wasn’t really that good. The only one who seemed to be able to act even in the slightest was Katie Featherston, and to be honest, the only time her acting was REALLY good, was when she was acting mad or pissed off. Which actually made me wonder if she might be a very angry person normally.

Anyway, Bottom line: Was it any good? If I did enjoy that style of movie? If I hadn’t had my expectations raised so high? Then yea, maybe it was a good movie. I guess it’s worth a rental. Hell, you should watch it for the hotness of Katie Featherston alone!

I love comic books, most people who know me already know this. I have even in the past gone into discussions about my favorite comic book company. So, this definately isn’t a secret. So, I’m not going to repeat that previous discussion…It’s out there, you all know about it.

What I am going to do however is talk about CLASSIC marvel comic books. They came out in a time when Americans were all great, all knowing and of course…a time when the american people were scared to death of communists(Some may still be scared to death of communists..I don’t know..but if they are luckily it doesn’t show in comics).

Case in point. Classic Thor comics(Was before he had his own series..back when he shared ‘Journey into mystery’ with some other Marvel heroish type..person) always pitted Goldilocks…errr…I mean Thor against either crazy gods or…Communists! Some times just communist agents, other times whole freaking communist countries…In one such instance Thor saved the day from them wacky commies and their leader decided he was gonna head off somewhere with his countries cash flow…and then his army-type people…realised how bad he was, how bad communists were…and how great America was…and killed their leader so ol’ thundergod wouldn’t hafta! Here’s a little panel that shows that.

Silly Commies

See? Classic! Ya gotta love those older comics, because they are so realistic….
